Nest ting multi file

Unread post by sinvia »

Dear All Friends,

I would like to nesting multi files: pls help me to add the name of each file on the labels of the parts?
And how do you print the labels for sticking on parts when manufacturing.

Thanks all,

Hello

Please explain little bit more specified, what do You want to do. Name cutting files? Get a name to the label? Print labels to parts? Something more?
Planned workflow is good to know. When it's secret, write privately. I did almost all those things last year.

Dear RaudMees,

I have a Projects that Included bed (named T1), wardrobe (T2). Then I would like to nest both T1 and T2 for exporting to CNC machine. After nesting I found that the name of part did not have pre-T1 or T2 names. So after cutting, milling... it is difficult to know what part belong to T1 or T2.

Moreover, can you share me how to make the labels for printing for stick on the parts.

Thank you,

Sinvia

Hello

File is attached. It's very large PDF, zoom it in to read text. There are 3 projects together. BUT, here is very big BUT. That file is created manually, how we like to get nested parts from machine. I don't have original output, but original is like this: Big parts is going by product from sheet to sheet as they must go. Small parts are unsorted and started from first panel to fill them max output. It means, if You have 5 projects over 20 sheets, then they are unsorted and You are in trouble to sort them out after machining. The name of the parts are defined in BOM, which will be read in when You do nesting. Check the picture. Also it's possible to use turned over machining in nesting (when part needs to be machined from both side) and then You have to define which name have turned part cutting file. They will be separate files.

Labeling - it depends which machine You have. We don't have labeling option in nesting and we just used those nesting sheets on the paper for sorting out parts. Also we saw TopSolid create same barcode for different parts. Same size, different drilling and same barcode. If Your nesting have labeling option, then use their own software to create labels. Just use TS BOM data through Excel to nesting labeling software. If You don't have it, then You are in trouble. I am thinking at the moment, maybe (maybe) it's possible to print out all labels from TS to labeling printer to the labels and then operator will have labeling roll and after machining he will sort them to the parts. He needs nesting layout on the paper too.

One extra picture is too how the multinesting files show You product names.

I hope it helps a bit :)

Nestin needs CAM too to put parts to machine. Without CAM Nesting is useless.

not totally true. We have CadCode We can export parts and process everything and get code without TopSolid CAM.

So YES you need some sort of CAM processor but not necessarily TopSolid's CAM

Of course there are several possibilities how to get files to CAM, but with anykind of export workflow is slower. More clicks, different programs etc.

"Same size, different drilling and same barcode"
Just to add to this comment when numbering parts in TopSolid to identify unique parts keep in mind the limitations there are base on fields available in the BOM template. If I have two parts the same size in thick x width x length, material, coating, designation, mass, and they each have one 5mm drill thru but in different location on each part TopSolid will only be able to see them as the same part its up to you to manually change the designation so TopSolid can see the difference in these parts. because TopSolid has no way to compare feature locations on parts to others

Todd, I am not agree with You. For indexing is very good tool in BOM: "DEF=<DESIGNATION|IDENTIFICATION=_,A>" - that command will read part geometry and indexing works as needed. But, for some parts barcode is same.

Todd, Olivier taught me this one, but, NO, you can indeed have seemingly identical parts in the BOM (even down the to mass) and still separate them.

for example, you can have 4 shelves that have the same width, length, thickness, and description, and 2 have a single 2inch grommet in a different place, you can get 3 different parts in the BOM. (see attached)

right click on the assembly in the tree and under "Modify Bill of Material" you select "regroup identical parts".
TS apparently knows the specific geometry of each part and and if they are not 100% identical then it will not group them. (again, 2 shelves with all the same mass & BOM characteristics, but 2 holes in different locations will result in two separate parts and are not just the limitated to the fields available in the BOM template

yeah I forgot about that button they moved it from the number automatic dialog to the display BOM sneaky bastards didn't put that they moved it in the what's new  also I think they improved on it cause I don't think it was that great when it was first released. but that's great. so I am assume that Raud is talking about a Bug in the barcode creation?

It might be a bug, but it also can be unfinished thing. In the beginning we got several bad surprises when we had 2 right sides and no left side. It was TS 6.17, maybe it was better in 6.19. I will check it on the weekend and let You know what I can get.

SINVIA,
perhaps you could upload one of your projects for us to look at, and tell us what you have done so far and, as near as you can tell, where your problem is.

thanks
