question about operations

Unread post by OMG »

Hello

Can you tell me, please, what is the meaning of "=*" and "=0" after the name of an operation?
Although the depths are ok in CAD, my colleague who makes the CAM programs told me that the pockets with "=0" have correct depths and the ones with "=*" have 0 mm depth.

Thank you.

Thanks, Woody

It would be useful to find out what does it means "with or without intermediary result"

Hello,

it means, more or less, that the operations with (*) creates a geometry that is stored in memory.
The operations with (0) are not kept in memory.
When TS needs to rebuild an operation, TS search the first geometry kept in memory and rebuild the file starting from this geometry.
TS keeps geometries in memory each 10 operations.
The more (*) you have faster are the rebuild done, but bigger is the file size.

I hope that this is clear.

Thank you for your explanation, Olaio.

But how can I decide what kind of operation (with or without intermediary result) I will use? TSW does that automatically for me?

You said that "TS keeps geometries in memory each 10 operations" but in my case there are 7 operations with "0" and two operations with "*"
I don't understand the logic behind that.

And, coming back to my first problem, why do the pockets with "*" have a depth equal to 0 in CAM?

Hello

the 0mm depth operation in CAM has no relation to this, report to your support something is wrong ( but not linked to * or 0 )

My opinion, There is no real need to try to optimize / purge operations as it will not change much down the road.
There are other concept if you want so optimze the performances ( simplfication, tolerances, #C components )...
