TopSolid nesting for band saw machines

Hello,

How can we use TopSolid nesting for band saw machine.
I have a band saw machine which cuts in X&Y direction only.
When we use TopSolid nesting we get as per NC cutting, which is not really useful for me.

Well our requirement is How can we use TopSolid nesting on Band sa machine.

Require points are as below.
1) Nesting should be like Horizontal & vertical cutting only as band saw machine requirement which uses CutRite software.
2) Then we require actual loss rate of the used sheets in nesting (as per band saw).
3) We want to accommodate nesting loss rate in BOM.

I would suggest you ask about how to setup the interface & or export to cutrite and what TopSolid file do you export to cutrite it may not be a nest file but just the parts from the assembly and then let cutrite optimize. I also think you will need to contact your re-seller or support to figure how to set this up and if you need additional codes/module because for me those buttons are greyed out. but you can always export to text or excel and import to cutrite if it will except those file formats.

Hi PG,

I might be wrong, but I will try. I think at first You need license for TopSolid Nesting and anykind of nesting machine template to make nestings. You don't need any postprocessor or CAM module. I have no idea how do You plan to cut with band saw - do You print contours out or parts are rectangular?
First 2 requirements will be ok. Loss rate in BOM, I think it's not possible, You will see that information when nesting is done. You can get area or perimeter into BOM and Excel can do something later.
If You can share more explained workflow, maybe I can help a bit more.

My nest sheets that show the map of what I am cutting have the loss rate per sheet included.

Hi RM,

Thanks for your reply.
Well I have license of TopSolid Nesting, And I can get loss rate per sheet in BOM that is Okay.
My point is most of our parts are rectangular, so we need to cut on Band saw machine only.
So when we use TopSolid nesting, parts are placing randomly which I can not cut on Band saw machine.
I am attaching 2 images - Result of TopSolid nesting.
TopSolid nesting like NC cutting.JPG
Cant cut on band saw.JPG
I don't think the area of perimeter will be correct with this nesting.
My requirement is to have nesting which I can cut on band saw - here I will get actual loss rate for the project.

My flow chart is like:
Part modeling & Part list in Excel/CutRite output
Now when I generate BOM to create quotation for customer I have to assuming the used material in project.

I can get loss rate from CutRite but there is no link in between where I am using two different platform.

Please if you could help.

Hi PG

Now I understand Your problem. I think, nesting can't optimize it for Your band saw. In this case workable solution is to make project, create a BOM, export to Excel and import that file into Cutrite and create cutting plan there. Bad thing is - they are not linked. I don't know how Cutrite works, can it import Excel with formulas or not, maybe You have to make some tricks in Excel template to get clear data to Cutrite.

Hi RM,

Thanks for your valuable time.
I think there is no such solution available which can give me direct output of actual loss rate.
well I am exporting parts list in Excel format but I think CutRite will not accept Excel file with any formulas.
Anyways we go with same process...
Thank you very much. :)

Hi Todd,
Thank you.
I have already setup for CutRite...I am giving part list to Cutrite.
My problem is can we get straight cut nesting (for band saw) in TopSolid.
So that I can get loss rate from used material.

I think it's better to ask from Missler re-seller. I looked nesting manuals and nothing about this.

Hi,

TS does not manage that!
You will need another software to do it.
Nesting is not a cutter optimizer, it is a part assembler.
As far as i know...
