Re: CURVED raised panel profile mismatch
More images: Here is the panel when NOT curved, curved models should look very similar with nice matching corner intersections. Correct flat surface Raised panel.jpg And here is the side profile of the BAD curved panel. As you can see, the geometry does not work to use the the same knife from the sy...

CURVED raised panel profile mismatch
How do we accurately model curved raise panels in TS? GOAL: Parametric half round cased opening with curved raised panels on the inside of the curved face, and where of course all the geometry is correct and the raised panel corners are beautiful. We will chain-sweep the entire panel on our CNC. PRO...

Re: MOUSE Recommendations
Thanks everyone! I ordered two mice - Damian's Utechsmart version, and a simpler 3D Connexion wireless. I'd already ordered the 3D, and since the Utech was only $29 I figured I could try!

Re: MOUSE Recommendations
Damian, I am considering your mouse, but seems it is not available in the US. However, when I put "uRage MMorpg mouse" into Amazon I get two other brands that look very similar. UtechSmart Venus looks almost identical, Redragon very similar. I'm not into gaming so I don't know any of these...

Re: MOUSE Recommendations
Damian, Thanks for the detailed input and screen shots - very helpful! Practically speaking, tell me about your experience using a mouse with so many buttons... how often do you "misfire" and accidently click the wrong button, or two buttons at once, or forget and have to look at the side ...

Re: MOUSE Recommendations
Thanks Todd. I like the suggestion of the ctl key being programmed on the mouse. What do you think of the 3dConnexion wireless CADMouse? it's the simple one, I think just 5 buttons plus the center scroll wheel, has the forward and backward on the side too. btw, Say "Hi" to Robbie K from Mi...

What mouse have you found to work well with TS'Wood? I am thinking to move beyond my ordinary MS 3 button wireless mouse to something that will speed up CAD modeling. Not necessarily looking for one that looks like a jet cockpit (I've seen some fancy mouse with LCD screens and buttons all over! :sho...

Re: AlphaCAM vs. TopSolid'WoodCAM
Interesting old thread. I still don't understand why the original question was misunderstood; perhaps I should have written a longer question. I understood then and now the difference between CAD and CAM. What I was asking for was a comparison on the CAM side of things between the industry leader Al...

rotary 4th axis - using SIDE of straight tool
we have an outboard rotary 4th axis (lathe) and we want to cut some dowels by using the SIDE of a nice Vortex spiral bit. Problem is TS only allows us to cut using the END of the tool - completely unacceptable. We cant seem to get around this. We'd like to chain-sweep along the LENGTH of the stock, ...

Optimizing TS for kitchen cabs
What is the best way to optimize TS for kitchen cabinets? Does anyone have a parametric kitchen cabinet template they would be willing to share? We want to be able to choose door/ drawer front configurations (e.g. 3 drawer bank, vs two doors one drawer, etc) Want to be able to choose drawer box hard...

Bring 2d Scanned shapes into TS?
How do I take a 2d line art scanned curve in a typical scanned format (e.g. .bmp) and bring it into TS directly and use it? A customer has a large complex piece of wood molding they want us to recreate. I want to import this shape as a bitmap (or other scanned format) and re-create it in TS so we ca...

btw, the attached photo shows some of the kind of furniture we want to make - perhaps that will help guide comments on the differences between Alpha and TS. We currently make this kind of furniture with tradtional machinery - shapers, hand-routers and hand-carving with hand-rubbed oil finishes. We h...

With due respect Jeff, I beg to differ. Sorry my question is too kindergarten for you  but that is where we are right now. Asking questions of actual users is part of my due-diligence before buying expensive software. Our buying decision, right now, is between AlphaCAM's premium product and TS'...

Christopher, We already have the latest Solidworks 2009 premium. We are considering very strongly to go with TopSolid'wood. Just looking to hear something of the plus and minus from users , as well as sellers. This is part of how I make my buying decisions on a major purchase like this. I like to he...
