How to orientate auxiliary view

Unread post by michelle »

Hi there,

I often come across this problem so I am sure I am missing some fundamental understanding when it comes to drafting (or perhaps frames).

I need to orientate my shaded part in the same way as on the right hand side shaded drawing. The problem is, no matter where I move my cursor when trying to place the auxiliary view, the part never gets into the correct orientation. What confuses me more so is that my MAIN view is in the exact same orientation as the MAIN view on the right hand side.

Could anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong and how I make my shaded auxiliary view to be in the same orientation as shown on the right hand side?

Thanks again
Michelle

PS there was no "Solve button" when I edited this view.

I got a work around which "works"... just not sure if I'm supposed to do it or not:

WORKAROUND SOLUTION:

What I did for the shaded part was to create another MAIN view rather than an Auxiliary view and set the Orientation to "Perspective Camera" (and without a checkmark in the "Associative box")

HI again,

Ok, I have a couple of things for you to check.

1) Are you using a draft template that is ISO or ANSI?

In an ISO draft template, the projections are set to First Angle
In an ANSI template, the projections are set to Third Angle

You can check this in the Entities manager (Parameters | System Parameters | Standard)
You can also check the projection Type in the Options Manager (View | Projection Type)

But know that if you choose an out of the box template that is ISO it will be First Angle and if you choose an ANSI it will be Third.

Ok, now that you know that, you also need to know that you cannot project the view automatically that you are trying to create. Sorry, it is not a standard view. However you can still create it.

You need to create another main view (you posted that you figured that out. :-) ) and then from there you can modify the orientation of the view. But here I can teach you a small magic trick. When you edit the view and see the rotation globe (sphere with blue arrows on it), you can middle click on the view and rotate it dynamically. This is the same rotate that you use to rotate a 3d model. Just note that to get the custom orientation you need to turn off the magnetic snap camera first. You can do that in the View tab, on the icon bar all the way to the right side of the icon bar.

Hi michelle,
you do not need to use a main view to create an auxiliary view.
You can use the section:
Views.png
Then drag it where you want.

Good point Olaio!

Let's take it one further. You can generate an auxiliary view off of any generated view. :-)

Thanks very much Olio and Bill.

(Bill I was using an ISO template... I had no idea they would differ in projected angles.)

Thank you both, my problem is solved!
