Multitasking

I would like to see the ability to go work on another part or assembly or anything for that matter while TopSolid is crunching a tool path. It is a really time suck when you have to wait for it to crunch a tool path and can't even view another part or get #s to set something else up. I should be able to go start doing something else on a different job or part while its calculating.

I have the latest i7 and an SSD and 16gb of fast DDR3 so it isn't like my workstation is slow by any stretch but sometimes while crunching it just hangs and i would love to be able to do something else while it gets its act together.

This a feature that every other major CAD/CAM package has.

Hi bheyboer

Are you talking about TS 6 or TS 7?

V7

I can do it already in V6 because I can have multiple instances open at once.

Hi bheyboer,

I think that you have 2 possible "solutions":

1 - Create several users and with the pdm server you can open several instances of TS (one for each user).
2 - You can run several sessions of TS7 at same time, but for that you need to run each session in distinct localpdm.
Of course that the manage of the projects is much more dificult, but in this way you can lunch the calculation of programs in one project and work in the preparation in another project.

Did you try the assynchronous mode for the cam also?

Yes Bill G. showed me assynchronous mode a while back but it doesn't allow for looking at a different part or assembly
