Radio controlled Bi-Plane

Unread post by Mark Oostveen »

OK, after seeing these nice project I will post mine as well.

About 6 years ago, after my first son was born I started the drawing for a Full aerobatic RC Bi-Plane. It is a 35% scale model of a Pitts M12, which results in a plane with a wingspann of 2.4m a length of 2.4m and a total weight of 13Kg

There are two of these planes acually build. One powered by a 8.5Kw electric motor and one powered by a 110cc twin cilinder petrol engine.

After creation of the nesting and a CAM file I used a milling machine to machine the plywood parts

Amazing work, congratulations!

What king of milling machine did you use to cut the plywood parts and what kind of plywood is it?

A home build router 1200x2500mm controlled by a Atos controller.
The materials used are
- roofmate for the wing ribs.
- poly styrene for vertical and horizontal stabilizer
- pine for the beams in the wing and fuselage
- balsa as sheets to cover the constructions 1.5 and 2mm
- and the plywood is a light weight one. In holland it is called populieren if I am correct it is populus 3-ply
