Automation vs Manual & Machine Process

Unread post by Todd »

Just curious how many people have spent the time setting up machine processes to use automatic/multi-machining vs how many people use manually/semi-automatic in CAM. and why you chose automation vs manuaL

I don't know 'how many', but most of them cannot imagine to go back in the past and work in manually/semi-automatic like they did at the beginning.

The automatic/multi-machining is a stage that you can reach when you master well the basic functionalities of TopSolid.
Automate things that you don't master leads nowhere.

The level of automation depends on the method used and the quality of the CAD document.
eg:
With a 5 axis machine you can program all the paths in continuous mode but the automation is not easy (or impossible) and the programs are big.
For Machine like Biesse/Scm/Homag,TopSolid can program the tilted planes (matrix).
It allow the recognition of features like drills/pockets on all the faces of the part.
